Viking Freya
Throughout the decades of sailing the world's great rivers, Viking has repeatedly reinvented the European river cruise vessel. By continuously building upon the tradition of innovation we have set industry standards and delighted Viking's guests. And with the introduction of the Viking Longships, we have done it all over again. These revolutionary sister ships are part of our award-winning European fleet, and deliver a consistent onboard experience no matter which great European rivers they sail.
Freya - Norse Goddess of Love
Freya - Norse Goddess of Love
Freya, daughter of Njord, is the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. She is sister to Freyr, the god of harvest, and together they ensure good crops and large families. Famous for her beauty, Freya has a passion for fine jewelry. In exchange for the golden necklace, Brisinga, made by four dwarves, she agrees to spend a day and a night with each. Her name means “lady.”
